Music is an
essential ingredient of any wedding day
Not only does it add to the
joyous atmosphere but also helps to structure the proceedings.
Even before you walk down the
ailse, music can help set the mood for your special day. Through
careful selection of the melodies and musicians for your wedding
service, you can express your feelings and emotions about the
day and help your guests share them with you.
At the reception you have the
choice of hiring a DJ or a live band. Some venues have their
own musicians and you will need to hire them as part of the
package deal
- The size of the live band
should be in proportion to your guest list as a rule of thumb,
- A five or six piece band
for 100-150 guests
- Make sure the band can provide
a good cross-section of music as your guests will probably
span several generations and have varied tastes in music
- You will need to ask yourself
the following;
What kind of music do
we want
- Start looking at least
4 months ahead
- See the DJ or band perform
live or ask for references
- Will they have their own
sound system. If so will it fit the reception area.
- Is there a deposit and
is it refundable
- What will the DJ (and the
bans) wear
- How often will they take
breaks? For a live band this is one every hour. They shouls
have a fill-in player
- Do they take special requests?
- Make sure the DJ has suitable
music and personality to fit in with your wedding atmosphere.
An important point to remember
is that wedding receptions are gatherings of friends and relations.
Most have probably not seen each other or yourselves for some
time. Nothing can be more off-putting than to have a band/
DJ who wants to blow out the doors. Make sure you choose well
and have your MC liaise with the band/ DJ to ensure everyone's
enjoyment.
